I began doing serious art work by working in collage. I was inspired while in college art class by the collages of Robert Rauschenberg. It was a stuggle, at first, because I didn't understand the concept of visual story telling and allegory. In the beginning, I thought one just cut our pictures and pasted them on sort of "messy-like" onto cardboard or canvas. But after seeing and works of Joseph Cornell I began to get the idea and started working in assemblage. My assembling three dimensional objects eventually led to a flattening and at times a combination of the two techniques. I still like working in the medium, although my creativity now flows from paint to collage to photography to sculpture and writing.
